Wontumi to report to EOCO today over fraud, money laundering probe

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, is in trouble. He is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Today, June 4, he must report to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). This is part of his bail conditions.

Chairman Wontumi was released on bail on June 2. He had spent several days in custody after his arrest on May 27. His bail was set at GH₵50 million. It comes with strict conditions, including regular reporting to EOCO.

Investigations into his actions are ongoing. He faces serious charges such as fraud and money laundering. There are also allegations of causing financial loss to the state.

Sammi Awuku has criticized the bail conditions as draconian.
