George Oduro, a former MP for New Edubiase, shared some insights. He revealed that Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, will not retaliate against the NDC if the NPP returns to power.
Oduro mentioned that despite Wontumi's legal issues under the NDC government, he respects the legal process. In an interview on Movement TV, Oduro said, “He said it is not important to retaliate.” He added that Wontumi does not like revenge and forgives those who wrong him.
Oduro noted that some people in the NPP turned against Wontumi during party elections. However, he did not seek revenge against them.
Earlier, Oduro claimed that Wontumi went five days without food or water while in EOCO custody. He dismissed claims that Wontumi was faking a stroke or illness to delay legal proceedings.
According to Oduro, Wontumi appeared weak after his release from EOCO custody due to his lack of food and water. He stated, “Even when he was going to the washroom, I had to support him.”
Oduro emphasized that Wontumi has specific eating habits and does not accept food from everyone. The person meant to bring him food was informed he had lost his appetite.
Wontumi was released from EOCO custody on June 2 after meeting bail conditions of GHS 50 million. He was arrested following a visit to the CID headquarters on May 27.
His lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi stated that Wontumi must return to EOCO for further questioning on June 4 and again on June 9, 2025.
