George Oduro, a former MP for New Edubiase, made serious claims. He said Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, went five days without food or water in EOCO custody.
Oduro dismissed claims that Wontumi was faking illness to delay legal proceedings. He noted that Wontumi appeared weak after his release from custody. This weakness was due to not eating or drinking for five days.
In an interview on Movement TV, Oduro explained further. He said he had to help Wontumi walk to the washroom with another officer. "He was genuinely weak," Oduro stated.
Oduro also mentioned that Wontumi is selective about food. He does not eat just anything and does not accept food from everyone. The person meant to bring him food reported that Wontumi had lost his appetite.
Frank Annoh-Dompreh, an MP for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, supported these claims. He stated that Chairman Wontumi has been on a hunger strike since his arrest on May 27, 2025.
On Peace FM, Annoh-Dompreh said Wontumi decided not to eat since his arrest. He criticized the doctors for being uncommunicative about Wontumi's condition.
Annoh-Dompreh expressed frustration over the lack of access to Wontumi by lawyers and family members. "Has he killed anyone?" he questioned.
Chairman Wontumi was released from EOCO custody yesterday, June 2, after meeting bail conditions of GHS50 million.
He was arrested after visiting the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters on May 27. His lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi announced that Wontumi must return for further questioning on June 4 and June 9, 2025.
