The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has launched the Technical and Steering Committees for the Work Abroad Programme. This launch follows weeks of intensive preparation. The YEA collaborated with the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Job Creation.
This initiative is a significant step in promoting legal labour migration for Ghanaian youth.
At the launch, YEA CEO Malik Basintale spoke about their commitment to this vision. He emphasized President John Mahama’s goal of decent labour migration.
Basintale stated, “We want Ghanaian youth to travel through regulated channels.” He added that they should gain experience abroad and return to help national development.
The committees include representatives from various key institutions. These include the Ministry of Labour, YEA, and the Labour Department. Other members are from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Youth and Sports, Interior, Ghana Immigration Service, ICMPD, ILO, IOM, and University of Ghana’s Centre for Migration Studies.
This collaborative effort aims to improve coordination and oversight of the programme. It will ensure participants' safety and welfare during their time abroad.
The launch represents a major advancement in creating job opportunities for Ghanaian youth globally.
