World Press Freedom Day: Experts gather to explore AI’s role in shaping media freedom

Many Ghanaians rely on the media for credible information. This includes politics, entertainment, and current affairs. Concerns are growing about misinformation's impact on press freedom.

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) becomes more common, its influence is significant. We must address how AI affects freedom of expression and journalistic integrity.

To mark World Press Freedom Day 2025, AfriMass GH and the AfriMass Network will host a discussion. They are collaborating with BlueCrest College and various media partners. The event will focus on free expression in an AI-driven world.

The theme is “Freedom of Expression in the Face of the AI Revolution.” It will take place on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. The location is BlueCrest University College Auditorium in Kokomlemle, Accra.

This gathering aims to discuss how AI changes media and news creation. Participants include journalists, media executives, academics, students, and technocrats. They will explore both risks and opportunities that AI brings to press freedom.

The event also emphasizes protecting journalistic integrity amid rapid technological changes. Media partners like GhanaWeb and JoyNews will share their experiences with AI in journalism. They will discuss ethical challenges related to information dissemination.

Stakeholders and the public are invited to join this important conversation. Together, we can shape the future of media and free expression in Ghana and beyond. Let’s advocate for equitable freedom of expression in today’s digital age.
