President John Dramani Mahama honored journalists in Ghana and worldwide. He shared a message for World Press Freedom Day. He called for ongoing support for a free and responsible media.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on May 3, he recognized the Ghanaian press's crucial role. He emphasized their efforts to hold leaders accountable and amplify public voices.
"As president, I celebrate the vital role of the Ghanaian media," he stated. "Your work is indispensable in stabilizing our democracy."
He wished all Ghanaian journalists a happy World Press Freedom Day. He praised their dedication and resilience, urging them to maintain high standards.
"Uphold journalistic integrity and foster informed public discourse," he said. This contributes to a stronger, more vibrant Ghana.
President Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to media freedom. He referenced comments from his Minister for Government Communications at the GJA Honours Night.
He promised that his future government would support an independent media landscape. "Let’s enhance our democracy through truth and ethical reporting," he concluded.
