World Vision Ghana launches Community Pad Bank in Kadjebi to tackle menstrual poverty

World Vision Ghana has launched a Community Pad Bank in Yadzo. This initiative is part of the 2025 Menstrual Hygiene Day celebrations. It aims to provide free sanitary pads to vulnerable girls in the community.

The launch took place under the theme “Together for a Period Friendly World.” Stakeholders from the Ghana Health Service, Ghana Education Service, and Kadjebi District Assembly attended. They committed to breaking the stigma around menstruation.

They want every girl to have resources and confidence for safe period management. Mr. Irvine Aboagye, Southern Regional Operations Manager of World Vision Ghana, spoke at the event. He emphasized the need for such initiatives due to rising teenage pregnancies.

He noted that many girls depend on boys for basic needs like sanitary pads. The Community Pad Bank serves as a lifeline for these girls' dignity and future.

The Pad Bank will be replenished through voluntary community donations. Individuals, institutions, and partners are encouraged to contribute one pack of pads monthly.

This initiative aims to reduce exploitation and boost school attendance among girls. It also seeks to address myths and taboos surrounding menstruation.

Cynthia, a midwife from Yadzo CHPS Compound, led a practical hygiene session. She taught young girls how to use and dispose of sanitary pads safely.

Dr. Sam Suraj Issaka, District Chief Executive of Kadjebi, praised the initiative's importance. He called it vital for promoting health and educational opportunities for girls.

World Vision Ghana’s commitment goes beyond providing products; it includes education and advocacy too. The Community Pad Bank is a significant step toward an inclusive future for girls in Yadzo and beyond.
