You're disrespecting rights of suspects - Minority slams AG

The Minority in Parliament has criticized Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine. They accuse him of disrespecting the constitutional rights of crime suspects.

On Monday, the Attorney General spoke to journalists. He outlined various offences allegedly committed by the former Director-General of the Bureau of National Communications.

At a news conference, John Darko, MP for Suame, addressed these issues. He accused the Attorney General of conducting a media trial. He also claimed that he fails to respect arrested individuals' rights.

The Minority stated they will not be intimidated by defamation threats. They plan to hold the government accountable for justice.

Lawyers for Kwabena Adu Boahene and his wife have also spoken out. They accused the Attorney General of conducting a "trial by media." They believe he should allow due process to take its course.

In a legal letter dated March 24, Zoe, Akyea & Co. condemned the AG's actions. They criticized him for calling their clients "state looters" during a press conference. Investigations by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) are still ongoing.

The lawyers stated that the Attorney General has prejudged their clients publicly. They argued this undermines due process and violates constitutional safeguards.

They expressed concern over his comfort with making public statements without proof beyond reasonable doubt. The letter described him as a "media persecutor" who acts as judge while still investigating.

The lawyers emphasized that changing governments should not lead to rule-of-law violations. They warned that such prejudice could have defamatory consequences and would be addressed in court.
