You’re disappointing Volta region, fix ‘dumsor’ – James Gunu to ECG

Volta Regional Minister James Gunu is frustrated with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). He expressed his concerns about ongoing power outages, known as "dumsor," during a recent visit.

Gunu called for better communication and accountability from ECG. He stressed the need for regular updates to residents. He urged ECG to inform the public in advance about expected outages.

“Whatever the challenges are, let us know,” he said. “There must be regular communication with the people.”

He highlighted how these outages have damaged appliances and caused financial losses. Gunu warned that residents might demand compensation from ECG soon. “People’s fridges and other appliances have been damaged,” he noted.

He questioned why it had come to this situation. Gunu expressed disappointment over ECG's neglect of the region's needs. “You are disappointing the people of this region,” he stated.

He also criticized ECG for not responding to official letters. “We’ve written to you, but I know your usual excuse,” he said. “That’s why I’ve come in person. Today, I am the letter.”

Christina Jatoe-Kaleo, ECG’s Volta Regional Manager, acknowledged the electricity challenges. She assured residents that steps are being taken to resolve them. She explained that many issues arise from constraints in GRIDCo's transmission network, which supplies power to ECG.
