Manasseh Azure Awuni, an award-winning investigative journalist, responded to President John Dramani Mahama's recent statement.
Mahama announced that each district will manage its own sanitation. He mentioned that the Cabinet will soon discuss decentralizing the sanitation budget. Performance of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) will be measured by cleanliness.
During his thank you tour in Dodowa, Mahama said, “Cabinet will soon meet on a decentralisation of the sanitation budget.” He added that cleanliness would be a key performance indicator for MMDAs. This measure could determine if they stay in office or are removed.
Mahama expressed gratitude to supporters who applauded him. He stated, “To whom much is given, much is expected.” More resources will be available for assemblies to implement development projects and sanitation programs.
He emphasized that this initiative would be legally backed and funded. Partnerships with local assemblies and private sector providers will support it. MMDCs must ensure success during National Sanitation Day events in their districts.
Reacting to Mahama's comments, Manasseh praised the president's direction. He warned Mahama not to be distracted by corrupt individuals seeking personal gain. Manasseh shared his thoughts on X: “Dear President John Dramani Mahama, After 12 years of fighting, I’m waiting to clap for you.”
He continued, “You’re on the right path. Don’t be distracted by corrupt beneficiaries of the looting system.” Manasseh has long criticized Jospong and urged governments to address issues related to the conglomerate.
He also revealed details about Zoomlion’s arrangement with YEA. According to him, Zoomlion receives GHS 850 while workers take home only GHS 250 monthly.
