Eric Edem Agbana, former SRC President of the University of Ghana and current Member of Parliament for Ketu North, has defended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against accusations from student leaders regarding the 20% increase in hostel fees.
Agbana clarified that the fees were approved a year in advance during the 2022/2023 academic year, well before the NDC assumed office.
He also noted that the current University of Ghana Council still includes representatives from the Akufo-Addo administration.
Agbana criticized student leaders for spreading baseless claims, urging them to avoid politicizing the issue.
While acknowledging the burden on students, he called on Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu to intervene and explore the possibility of reducing the fees to ease students' financial strain.
