“You don’t catch a wild dog unarmed” – Terlabi defends attempted arrest of Wontumi

Deputy Interior Minister Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi defended the attempted arrest of Bernard Antwi Boasiako. He is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, known as Chairman Wontumi. Terlabi stated that the operation was justified and followed national security protocols.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, he dismissed claims of political motivation. He emphasized that the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) acted within its mandate. “The National Security will not go to Wontumi's house without a reason,” he said.

Terlabi urged people to let security personnel do their job. He stressed that peace is essential for the country. Addressing Wontumi's claims of harassment, Terlabi called them a distraction.

“He is just playing the victim,” Terlabi remarked. “Nobody wants to kill Wontumi; they went there to invite him.” He compared it to catching a wild dog, saying one must be prepared.

Wontumi had accused the NIB and Ghana Police Service of intimidation. Earlier on Friday, he spoke on Asempa FM and addressed his supporters. He blamed former President John Dramani Mahama for his situation.

“Ghanaians, rise! All NPP supporters should rise,” he declared. The attempted raid has increased political tensions in Ghana. Critics are calling it an abuse of state power while others urge patience during investigations.

So far, there has been no official statement explaining why the NIB visited Wontumi’s residence.
