You’ll just pay only 1 cedi as road toll – John Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama announced that road users will pay just one Ghana cedi in tolls.

He mentioned that tolls could be charged directly from mobile money wallets or bank accounts. This was shared during the 9th Ghana CEO Summit and Awards Expo.

Mahama explained that drivers won't need to sit in traffic to make payments. Vehicles will be linked to their owners' Ghana Cards for easier tracking.

The government plans to collect tolls via mobile money or bank transactions. Mahama stated, “Every car is linked to the owner’s Ghana Card.”

He added, “If you cross the East Legon bridge, we take a picture of your car. The system will send the toll charge to your mobile money or bank account.”

The Mahama government previously announced that road and bridge tolls would return soon. This aims to generate revenue for road maintenance and related needs.

According to the Ministry of Roads and Highways, this reintroduction will help address funding challenges for road infrastructure.

They are developing a modern, technology-driven toll collection system for efficiency. The ministry emphasized an open and fair procurement process for this initiative.

They assured the public that the new system will resolve current tolling and maintenance funding issues in the country.
