You promised to produce Ken Ofori-Atta in May, where is he? – Ayariga quizzes Afenyo-Markin

Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader in Parliament, confronted Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin. He asked about the whereabouts of former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Afenyo-Markin had previously stated that Ofori-Atta was traumatized. The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) labeled him a fugitive. On February 13, he mentioned that Ofori-Atta was undergoing medical procedures.

Afenyo-Markin expressed confidence that Ofori-Atta would return soon. He also planned to engage constructively with the OSP. He assured them that any miscommunication would be addressed.

On June 3, 2025, Ayariga questioned Afenyo-Markin again. He asked why Ofori-Atta had not appeared as promised in May. "Where is Ken Ofori-Atta?" he demanded.

Ayariga suggested not to trust Afenyo-Markin's promises. He noted that Afenyo-Markin often insists others fulfill their commitments instead.

The OSP rejected Ken Ofori-Atta’s request for a virtual session. Kissi Agyebeng stated he must appear physically before them. “We will not waive this requirement,” he emphasized.

Agyebeng explained they had waited until June 2 for his appearance. “A suspect cannot dictate how investigations are conducted,” he added.

He also announced plans for an INTERPOL red notice against Ofori-Atta. This could lead to international arrest and extradition.

“About 30 minutes ago, I initiated this process,” Agyebeng revealed. The OSP accused Ofori-Atta of causing financial loss to the state in various dealings.

These include issues related to the National Cathedral and contracts with the Ghana Revenue Authority and Health Ministry.
