‘You’re not a Media tribunal’ – MFWA Boss warns National Security

Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah, has cautioned Ghana’s National Security Secretariat against acting as a media tribunal after summoning journalist Prosper Agbeyega over a published story.

In a Facebook post on April 8, Braimah expressed shock that Agbeyega was questioned by National Security operatives over an article detailing a leaked document on ECG container transport—a matter he said is of public interest.

Braimah stressed that the “Resetting Ghana” agenda must not be used to intimidate journalists, warning that such actions fall outside National Security’s mandate.

“There are constitutional ways to address concerns with media work—none involve interrogating journalists,” he stated.

He urged the media to remain fearless and professional, adding, “No overzealous official should believe journalists can be bullied into becoming government cheerleaders.”
