You’re planting the idea – Ayariga blasts Afenyo-Markin over third term claims

Majority Leader and MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has rejected claims about President John Dramani Mahama. He denies that the President and the NDC are planning an unconstitutional third term.

In an interview with Citi Prime News, Ayariga responded to Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin. Afenyo-Markin suggested that Mahama’s nomination of seven Supreme Court judges is part of a “third term agenda.”

Afenyo-Markin claimed this was a major attempt at a long-planned strategy. He made these comments on Thursday, May 1.

Ayariga called such speculation unfounded and politically motivated. He believes Afenyo-Markin is planting ideas in Ghanaians' minds.

“I have not heard Ghanaians discussing this,” Ayariga said. He added that it seems like Afenyo-Markin is the one suggesting these thoughts.

Ayariga pointed out that discussions about Mahama seeking a third term began before he filed to run for re-election in 2024.

He noted that some people even threatened legal action to stop him from contesting. They believed he would run for a third term.
