Nii Lantey Vanderpuye is the National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP). He criticized the Minority in Parliament for their petition against Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. He called their approach premature and attention-seeking.
Vanderpuye spoke on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on April 17. He suggested that the Minority's eagerness shows their limited political scope. “They are too much in haste to be relevant,” he said.
He urged them to let constitutional processes unfold without interference. Any judgment about the Chief Justice should come from outcomes, not public commentary. “Allow the constitutional process to engage itself fully,” he added.
Regarding Chief Justice Torkornoo, Vanderpuye expressed mixed feelings. “I have a lot of respect for her,” he stated. However, he noted that she sometimes appears different than expected.
He mentioned hearing things from people close to the judicial system. “All that glitters is not gold,” he warned. He believes she may not be as saintly as perceived but will give her a chance.
Vanderpuye also claimed that the Minority's actions are predictable and lack strategy. “As soon as they start thinking, we have already thought ahead,” he explained. Their predictability allows others to anticipate their next moves easily.
