President John Mahama has expressed confidence in the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. He believes Otumfuo can help bring lasting peace to Bawku through his mediation efforts.
Mr. Mahama spoke during a visit from the Asantehene and a group of chiefs on June 2nd. He praised Otumfuo for his leadership in resolving the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute.
The resolution of this 16-year conflict shows Otumfuo’s steady influence. Mr. Mahama noted, “You led Dagbon from painful division to reconciliation.”
He commended the Asantehene for taking on another complex challenge in Bawku. This area is known for its conflicts in the Upper East Region.
“You stepped forward to assist our nation in great need,” he said. Mr. Mahama acknowledged Otumfuo’s efforts to mediate the Bawku conflict.
These efforts offer hope through quiet diplomacy and cultural sensitivity. “You are paving the way towards peace in a fragile area,” he added.
Mr. Mahama wished him well and expressed confidence that peace will come to Bawku. The Asantehene's intervention comes amid heightened tensions in the region.
Various stakeholders are calling for a sustainable, non-partisan approach to peacebuilding there.
