Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He has accused President John Dramani Mahama of political persecution. Wontumi claims his businesses have been targeted since Mahama took office.
After an attempted raid on his house on May 23, he expressed frustration. He questioned whether he is still considered a Ghanaian under this administration. “Am I not a Ghanaian anymore?” he asked.
Wontumi called on NPP supporters and all Ghanaians to resist what he sees as oppression. “Ghanaians, rise! Arise, Ghanaians!” he urged. He believes Mahama's actions are due to their support for him.
He denied having any privileged political position. Wontumi emphasized that he is just a party chairman focused on campaigning. “Was I ever a Vice President? Have I ever been a minister?” he questioned.
Wontumi also alleged that Mahama’s government has harmed his finances. “You collapsed my business back in 2013,” he claimed. He stated that all his operations have been halted and even his bank account is frozen.
