The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has issued a warning.
Transport stations and branches must comply with a 15% fare reduction.
Godfred Abulbire, GPRTU's General Secretary, spoke about this issue.
He noted that some operators in the Ashanti Region delayed adjustments due to late communication.
On Channel One TV, he stated that sanctions will follow non-compliance.
He said, “By tomorrow, if stations don’t comply, sanctions will be applied.”
Abulbire mentioned that one punishment is to stop drivers from loading.
Some transport operators in Tamale have not fully complied yet.
Reports indicate some stations reduced fares by only 10%.
Others insist they will reduce fares on Monday, citing late notice.
The GPRTU announced a 15% fare drop effective Saturday, May 24, 2025.
This follows successful negotiations with the Ministry of Transport.
The adjustment reflects the cedi's appreciation against the US dollar.
This change has led to lower fuel prices.
Abass Imoro from GPRTU confirmed the fare reduction on CITI NEWS.
He said it would take effect from Saturday despite some delays in spare parts pricing.
Alhaji Abbas Ibrahim Moro advised passengers against assaulting drivers or mates.
Instead of violence, report non-compliant drivers to the police.
Moro emphasized that passengers should not beat drivers for refusing fare reductions.
