“You will not be able to reach the president when we are about removing you” – Chief of Staff to appointees

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah addressed government appointees recently. He stated they can always reach President John Dramani Mahama, except when facing removal.

Debrah emphasized the importance of following the new Code of Conduct. He warned that any violations will not be tolerated. There will be no excuses for crossing the line.

He urged all officials to study the code as if it were sacred text. Speaking at the launch on May 5, 2025, he compared governance to running a boarding school. There must be rules and checks in place.

Debrah encouraged everyone to take their copy seriously. He said, “There shall never be any excuse when you cross the line.”

He also mentioned that reaching the president is only difficult during removal processes. Debrah noted that even if someone tries to contact him through others, it won’t work.

He expressed hope that no one would face removal but warned against ignorance as an excuse.

President Mahama also spoke at the launch. He announced that gifts over GHC20,000 must be declared by appointees. Additionally, he stated public funds cannot be used for gifts or hampers.
