Your Ghana Card will bill you automatically – Mahama on reintroduction of road tolls

President John Dramani Mahama announced plans to reintroduce road tolls. The new system will be fully digital. It will eliminate tollbooths and manual payments.

Mahama spoke at the 9th Ghana CEO Summit in Accra on May 26, 2025. He emphasized a high-tech approach for seamless toll collection. Vehicle owners will be billed directly.

“We’ve linked every car to its owner’s Ghana Card,” he said. Cameras will capture cars crossing bridges. Bills will be sent to MoMo or bank accounts.

The former president praised Margins Group for their role in this innovation. “Margins did a good job,” he stated. This infrastructure modernizes toll collection.

This system supports Mahama’s goal of digitizing public services. It aims to increase efficiency and reduce revenue loss. It also seeks to eliminate traffic caused by physical toll stations.
