The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Armah Kofi Buah, praised Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno. He recognized the Ghana Police Service's role in fighting illegal mining. This acknowledgment came during the Global Mining Summit on June 2, 2025.
The Minister highlighted the contributions of the IGP and other security agencies. They are crucial in combating illegal mining and protecting water bodies. “The IGP’s personal effort has been great,” he said. He also commended the Police Service and other agencies for their support.
In recent months, the Ghana Police Service has stepped up operations against illegal mining. In Samreboi and nearby areas, a special Anti-Galamsey Taskforce seized over 100 excavators. They also confiscated bulldozers, weapons, Chanfang machines, and other items. Several suspects have been arrested and are facing legal action.
Similar operations have taken place in Ashanti, Eastern, Western, Central, and Upper West Regions. The Ghana Police Service recently reaffirmed its commitment to this fight. They will work with stakeholders to protect water bodies and natural resources.
On June 3, Ghana marks ten years since a deadly flood and fire incident.
