Zelensky to meet Trump in Washington to sign minerals deal

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to meet U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on Friday to formalize an agreement on Ukraine’s mineral resources.

While Zelensky views the deal as a preliminary step toward broader security commitments, Trump has dismissed offering substantial U.S. guarantees, emphasizing Europe's role instead.

He also downplayed Ukraine’s NATO aspirations, urging Kyiv to "forget about it," echoing Russia’s stance.

Trump proposed American investment in Ukraine’s rare earth metals as an "automatic security" measure but suggested a ceasefire deal with Russia was in sight.

Meanwhile, European officials expressed concerns over being sidelined in negotiations.

Zelensky warned that without solid security assurances, peace remains uncertain, highlighting ongoing divisions in the diplomatic efforts to end the war.
