Zoomlion Ghana Expands Operations Beyond Ghana
Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL) is expanding its operations. It is a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC). Recently, ZGL signed three waste management agreements. These agreements are in Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Ethiopia.
The agreement with Nigeria will create over 5,000 jobs. Dr. Siaw Agyepong signed the contracts in each country’s capital. This shows that Zoomlion's work is appreciated internationally.
In Lagos, Nigeria, the agreement was signed on May 26, 2025. It was between Zoomlion Nigeria Limited and the Lagos state government. The partnership aims to improve waste management in Lagos State.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dr. Agyepong formalized this partnership at the State House in Ikeja. They plan to develop two key facilities: a material recovery plant and a waste recycling plant.
Lagos generates about 13,000 tonnes of waste daily. The agreement includes building Transfer Loading Stations (TLS) at two dumpsites: Olusosun and Solous III. The TLS at Olusosun will divert 2,500 tonnes daily to a new Material Recovery Facility in Ikorodu.
The TLS at Solous III will divert 1,500 tonnes daily to another facility in Badagry. Self-tipping tricycles will also be used for better waste collection in hard-to-reach areas. All projects are expected to finish within 18 months.
Governor Sanwo-Olu called this agreement a "turning point" for waste management in Lagos. He emphasized it would create over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, praised the project as significant progress toward a circular economy.
On the same day, Zoomlion signed another MoU with Kinshasa, DRC. This collaboration focuses on collecting and converting municipal waste into valuable products.
This partnership is expected to generate around 5,000 jobs in Kinshasa's waste management sector. Honorable Léon Mulumba Mwana Nshiya represented Kinshasa during the signing ceremony.
He stated that this agreement reflects their commitment to a cleaner Kinshasa. Mr. Daniel Amuyaw Addo led Jospong’s delegation and expressed enthusiasm for the partnership.
He presented a token of appreciation to Governor Daniel Bumba Lubaki as goodwill gesture. The Governor highlighted its importance for Africa's environmental well-being.
In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Zoomlion signed an MoU on May 29, 2025. This aims to establish Integrated Waste Management Infrastructure in the city.
The agreement will enhance existing facilities for better sanitation and sustainability in Addis Ababa. Zoomlion plans to invest in developing Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs).
They will also set up Compact/Mobile Transfer Loading Stations for efficient waste management within designated areas. Upon completion, this facility will create around 5,000 new jobs while improving sanitation standards.
Representatives from both parties stressed the importance of this partnership for urban waste challenges in Addis Ababa.
Honorable Eng. Wendimu Seta noted that Jospong’s expertise would lead to more efficient systems.
Further details on implementation timelines and specific projects will be announced soon.
