The Minister of Local Government, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, revealed that the government owes Zoomlion Ghana Limited GH¢1.2 billion. This debt is for waste management services provided over the past two years.
He shared this information during an interview on Adom TV. The discussion focused on delayed payments to firms under the Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA).
Despite these financial challenges, the Minister highlighted ongoing collaboration with Zoomlion. They are working together to tackle waste management issues, especially recycling plastic waste.
“Zoomlion is crucial in addressing our waste management challenges,” he stated. He praised their efforts in improving sanitation and environmental sustainability in Ghana.
Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim noted that Zoomlion's commitment to advanced waste management systems is unmatched. However, the GH¢1.2 billion debt raises concerns about sustainability in waste management operations.
Industry players are calling for urgent measures to relieve the financial burden on service providers.
