National Service Authority Uncovers Major Fraud Scheme in Eastern Region

A significant payroll fraud scheme has been discovered in the Birim North District. This involves the national service scheme in the Eastern Region.

Two senior officers have been suspended. They are the District Manager and the MIS Manager. Both reportedly confessed to their involvement in the fraud.

The National Service Authority called this fraud a betrayal of public trust. They created a system for illegal payments to unqualified personnel. Records were manipulated to process monthly allowances for 29 individuals this year and 49 from last year.

The authority stated, “This is not merely a disciplinary matter.” It is a breach of public trust and violates the National Service Act. The statement emphasized that these actions were deliberate acts of deception.

Some permanent public servants registered as National Service Personnel illegally. They received monthly allowances while also drawing salaries from their main jobs.

To combat this, the authority plans stricter verification protocols. They will cross-check enrolment data against the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department database.
