"Mi wura": Wontumi shows humility, begs Mahama to intervene in his case

Chairman Wontumi Appeals to Mahama for Help

Chairman Wontumi is trending after a recent incident. National Security operatives attempted to arrest him. In a video interview, he asked President John Mahama for intervention.

Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, expressed his concerns. He spoke during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show on May 23, 2025. He was upset about the actions of National Security.

He described how armed personnel came to his house seeking to apprehend him. Wontumi refused them entry, fearing they had ulterior motives. He was surprised that such force was used against him.

In a calm voice, he called on President Mahama to intervene. He urged Mahama to speak with those working for him. Wontumi also mentioned he would meet with National Security operatives on May 26, 2025.

He stated, "Wontumi is not hard to find." He added that he would never disobey a court order. His comments followed the raid by National Security operatives at his home.

Videos circulated online showing security forces outside his residence. This event sparked reactions across social media platforms. The government had previously revoked Akonta Mining’s license due to illegal mining accusations.

Many netizens shared their opinions about Wontumi's appeal in the comments section of the video. One user questioned his authority as "governor" of Ashanti Region. Another suggested he sell gold displayed on TV.

Some users speculated that Mahama was behind Wontumi's troubles. Earlier reports indicated that Wontumi denied any involvement in illegal mining activities. He claimed allegations regarding mining in Samreboi were false.

His company is currently challenging the decision to revoke its mining license in court.
