"Pass on some of the cedi appreciation to Ghanaians" - Mahama tells business operators

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government's commitment to fiscal discipline. He urged businesses to help the economy recover by lowering prices. This should reflect the recent appreciation of the cedi.

At the 9th Ghana CEO Summit and Awards Expo, President Mahama praised companies that adjusted their prices. He specifically highlighted the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) for their proactive measures.

“GPRTU, thank you very much,” he said. He encouraged others who haven't adjusted prices to do so. “Please pass on some of the cedi appreciation to Ghanaians,” he added.

The President assured businesses that his government would maintain fiscal discipline. He emphasized creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.

He commended those who reduced prices in response to the cedi's gains. This helps alleviate some hardship for Ghanaians.

His comments come as signs of economic stabilization appear. The cedi has steadily appreciated against major currencies in recent weeks.

Mr. Mahama expressed particular gratitude towards GPRTU. Their decision to lower transport fares was timely and beneficial for commuters.
