OSP Warns Ofori-Atta to Present Himself by June 2 or Face INTERPOL Red Notice
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has warned former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. He must appear at their headquarters on Monday, June 2, 2025. If he fails to show up, he will be declared a fugitive.
The OSP stated it would start the process for an INTERPOL Red Notice. This notice could lead to his international arrest and extradition.
An INTERPOL Red Notice would alert all 196 member states about his status. It would seek his location and arrest globally. This could restrict his travel and increase the chances of arrest abroad.
Ken Ofori-Atta is under investigation for alleged corruption and abuse of office. He was previously on the OSP's wanted list but was removed after cooperating with authorities. However, this status is uncertain until June 2, 2025.
Ghanaians have reacted to the OSP's ultimatum on social media. Some comments include:
- @CheEsquire: "For Uncle Ken Ofori-Atta, how much make we make the bail? Gh¢ 1 Billion?"
- @barkervogues: "Tomorrow, Ken Ofori-Atta will be arrested by the OSP."
- @DonkorST: "The OSP and Ken are in a game of ‘Show up or be declared wanted’."
- @CFC_Bethram77: "Drama for the week... All you need is data for the week."
- @bogkurJnr: "Ken should either be on his flight or in Ghana today."
Earlier, Ken Ofori-Atta sued Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng for declaring him wanted. He argued that this declaration abused power. His lawsuit has sparked mixed reactions among Ghanaians.
