Ghana Government Urges Nationals in Lebanon to Return Home
The Ghanaian government has urged its citizens in Lebanon to return home. This comes amid the ongoing invasion of Lebanon by Israeli forces. There are fears that Israel may soon launch a full-scale ground operation. Such an operation could lead to more loss of lives and destruction.
Many African migrants in Lebanon are already stranded. Their Lebanese employers have fled without them. The Ghanaian government advises nationals to use available flights for their return. This information was shared in a press release from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs on October 4, 2024.
The release addresses the escalating crisis following Israel’s attacks on Lebanon. Ongoing airstrikes have displaced over one million people, many of whom are African domestic workers. The Ghanaian government is deeply concerned about this situation.
Migrants lacking complete documentation should seek help from the Ghanaian embassy in Cairo or the Honorary Consulate in Beirut. These measures aim to ensure the safety and well-being of Ghanaians amidst growing instability in Lebanon.
Meanwhile, the international community is closely monitoring the situation. They are working to provide humanitarian support for those affected by the conflict.
Ghanaians Refuse Evacuation from Israel Amid Conflict
Despite escalating tensions in the Middle East, some Ghanaians living in Israel do not want to leave. Calls for evacuation arose after Hamas attacked Israel, killing around 800 civilians. In response, Israel launched reprisal attacks on Palestine.
On October 10, 2023, Seth Cudjoe, a Ghanaian resident in Israel, expressed his desire to stay with his newborn child despite the war between Palestine and Israel.
In another development, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams faced criticism for praying for Israel during its conflict with Palestine. During a sermon on October 15, he encouraged his congregation to pray for Israel after a terror attack.
His actions sparked disagreement among many Ghanaians who oppose Israel's invasion of Gaza and other Palestinian territories.
