"Treat others as you wish to be treated" – Afenyo-Markin warns NDC

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has warned the NDC. He urges them to reconsider strict bail conditions for NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi. This case has sparked intense political debate.

Chairman Wontumi is currently in custody. Afenyo-Markin calls the bail demands excessive. Wontumi must present property worth GHS50 million, despite health issues.

The NPP has organized protests against this treatment. Supporters accuse the NDC of political persecution. The MP for Effutu condemned the actions as unjust and politically motivated.

Afenyo-Markin's side boycotted Parliament and protested at EOCO headquarters in Accra. He spoke with JoyNews during these protests, criticizing the government's actions.

He said, “In a Rambo-style, he (Wontumi) is arrested; you interrogate him.” He questioned why Wontumi must provide such high-value property while unwell. “What kind of country are we in?” he asked.

Afenyo-Markin urged the government to change the bail terms. He emphasized that Wontumi will not flee custody.

He also sent a message to the NDC: “Four years will come soon.” He reminded them to treat others as they wish to be treated.

Afenyo-Markin accused the government of using bail conditions to punish opponents. He warned that these tactics could backfire later.

Legal experts criticize excessively punitive bail terms for undermining fairness in justice. Government officials argue that these terms are standard for high-profile financial cases.

Transparency advocates call for due process in this situation. Social media reactions are divided along political lines, with some supporting accountability and others seeing hypocrisy in the NDC’s actions.
