Sam George Promises Lower Data Prices by End of 2025
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, has made a promise. He assured Ghanaians that data prices will decrease by the end of 2025.
He spoke at the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day event on May 19. The minister acknowledged public frustration over high internet costs.
George stated, “My promise was that by the end of this year, we will see prices drop—and my promise remains.” He urged people to trust the process.
He noted that he has been trending on social media due to concerns about data costs. Many believe these prices should be lowered quickly.
George explained that a committee was formed to address this issue. This committee has already completed its work ahead of schedule.
Despite his assurances, George faces pressure online from Ghanaians. They want improvements in the economy to include lower data prices.
Samuel Yeboah from Tech In Twi commented on the situation. He highlighted that there are over 39% tariffs on every data purchase.
Yeboah pointed out these tariffs were not approved by Parliament under the previous government. He believes removing these tariffs could significantly reduce data prices.
He concluded that true progress lies in eliminating those tariffs while making data more affordable for everyone.
