'Man Utd didn't need the money' - Fernandes rejects Al-Hilal move

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has turned down a big offer from Al-Hilal. He wants to continue playing at the highest level.

The 30-year-old considered a deal that would double his salary. Fernandes is one of the top earners at Old Trafford. After talking with his family, he decided not to join Al-Hilal.

Before Portugal's Nations League semi-final against Germany, he shared his thoughts. United manager Ruben Amorim asked him to stay.

"Manchester United said they didn't want to sell me," Fernandes explained. "They said if I wanted to go, I could, but they didn’t need the money." He also mentioned that Amorim encouraged him not to leave.

Fernandes described the Al-Hilal offer as exciting and easy to accept. Many Portuguese players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Cancelo play there now. However, he emphasized his desire to compete at a high level.

"I want to play in major competitions," he stated. "I know I still can and want to be happy doing what I love." He is passionate about football and made this decision for himself.

United is pleased with Fernandes' choice, especially after Amorim expressed confidence in him staying. There were no direct talks between United and Al-Hilal about a transfer bid.

Reports suggested Al-Hilal might have offered £80m to £100m for him before the Fifa Club World Cup. It remains unclear if they will seek other targets now.

Since joining Manchester United for £47m in January 2020, Fernandes has played 290 games and scored 98 goals. Former player Gary Neville commented on the situation during an interview.

Neville believes turning down the transfer was not a bad deal for United but noted Fernandes' importance. "He wants to fight through this tough time," Neville said.

"This decision will endear him even more to Manchester United fans." He praised Fernandes for wanting to achieve success despite challenges facing the club right now.

"The club needs people who will give their all," Neville concluded.
