18-year-old man with autism to ride bicycle from Accra to Tamale - Channel1 News

Phil Bertino is an 18-year-old man with autism. He lives in Accra and is a professional cyclist. Phil also plays the piano, tennis, basketball, and swims.

His mother, Angel Liz Acquah Bertino, spoke to the Ghana News Agency. She said Phil has done similar bike rides before. These rides raise awareness about autism and show that there is ability in autism.

Phil's upcoming ride from Accra to Tamale will cover 600 kilometers. This will be his longest ride yet. The goal is to challenge stereotypes about autism and promote inclusion.

During his journey, Phil will visit schools to engage with students. He plans to share educational materials and meet local communities. He aims to foster understanding of autism and distribute books to underserved children.

Mrs. Acquah Bertino mentioned that Phil usually donates books on these trips. He uses these opportunities to educate Ghanaians about autism. She added that Phil dreams of becoming a top Paralympic bike rider for Ghana.

She called on stakeholders to support his dream. "Phil can currently ride 255 kilometers per day," she noted.

Mrs. Acquah Bertino is also the founder of Litzino Centre for children with special needs. The center nurtures children with autism through good nutrition and exercise, including massage therapy.

She urged philanthropists and corporate organizations to support Phil’s aspirations.
