Accra Lions are close to relegation from the Ghana Premier League. They lost 3-1 to Accra Hearts of Oak.
This defeat leaves Lions in 16th place on the league table. They have 35 points, two less than Young Apostles and Basake Holy Stars, who both have 37 points. Karela United has 38 points and all three teams still have weekend matches to play.
Hearts opened the scoring early. Enoch Asubonteng scored his first goal of the season after just 12 minutes.
Lions fought back and equalized with Laurence Setordjie’s goal. This happened with 20 minutes left in the match.
However, Hearts quickly responded with two goals in eight minutes. Kwesi Asmah scored first in the 81st minute. Hamza Issah sealed the win with a goal just before time expired.
Despite this victory, Hearts of Oak remain in 5th place with 52 points. Meanwhile, Lions stay in the relegation zone.
