2025 Unity Cup: Italian-based striker Felix Afena-Gyan returns to Black Stars after over two years

Felix Afena-Gyan, a forward for Juventus Next Generation, is back with the Black Stars. He returns ahead of the 2025 Unity Cup tournament after nearly three years away.

The Unity Cup features teams from Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Ghana, and Nigeria. Coach Otto Addo announced his final squad today. Regular players like Jordan Ayew and Lawrence Ati-Zigi are included. However, Kudus Mohammed and Thomas Partey did not make the team despite being fit.

A surprising addition is Felix Afena-Gyan. He has not played for the national team in over two years. His last match was an international friendly against Brazil in September 2022. Injuries have kept him from showing his talent until now.

This past season, he stayed healthy and performed well in Serie C. He scored six goals and provided three assists.

Ghana will start their Unity Cup campaign against Nigeria on Tuesday, May 28. The match will take place at Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford. The winner will advance to the final on May 31. The losing team will play in a third-place playoff earlier that day.

The Black Stars will open camp on Sunday, May 25, in Accra before traveling to the tournament. This event is part of Ghana's preparation for World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Mali in September.
