Former Super Eagles captain and 1980 AFCON winner, Coach Henry Nwosu, warned that failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup would be a major setback for Nigerian football.
Despite the pressure, Nwosu remains optimistic, stressing that Nigeria has the potential to qualify if proper preparations are made, including correct player selection, fitness, and injury prevention.
He highlighted the severe consequences of not qualifying, such as a drop in football ranking and a tarnished reputation in Africa.
Nwosu expressed confidence in new coach Eric Sekou Chelle, believing that he can lead the team through the remaining qualifiers.
With crucial matches ahead, Nwosu urged the Super Eagles to perform at their best to secure a World Cup spot.
