Winfried Schäfer, the newly appointed technical advisor for Ghana’s Black Stars, has arrived in the country to assist in preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The experienced German coach, who led Cameroon to the 2002 AFCON title, was welcomed by assistant coach Desmond Ofei.
Schäfer's appointment strengthens Ghana's coaching staff following Otto Addo’s failure to qualify the team for the 2025 AFCON, marking their first absence in 20 years.
Alongside his advisory role, Schäfer will serve as the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) technical director.
Team psychologist Kris Perquy and video analyst Gregory De Grauwe will also join soon.
The Black Stars continue their qualification campaign next month with key matches against Chad and Madagascar.
