“I never encouraged sacking Otto after AFCON qualification failure” – C.K Akonnor

Former Black Stars coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor has made a statement. He clarified that he never supported calls for Otto Addo's dismissal. This came after the team's failure to qualify for AFCON in Morocco.

Ghana had a disappointing campaign. They finished bottom of Group F without a single win. This marked one of the Black Stars' worst performances in two decades. Fans expressed frustration and many demanded Addo's sacking.

In contrast, Otto Addo has done well in his second stint as coach. He led the Black Stars to the top of their group in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. The team earned an impressive 15 points.

This success follows his earlier tenure with Ghana. He guided the team to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but they exited in the group stage.
