Abdul Karim Zito is the Technical Director and interim coach of Asante Kotoko. He criticized strikers Albert Amoah and Kwame Poku after a 0-0 draw with Hearts of Oak. He accused them of being selfish and unfocused.
Despite the draw, Kotoko moved to the top of the Ghana Premier League. Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak dropped to sixth place.
Zito dismissed claims of healthy competition among his strikers. He believes their actions stem from individual ambition, not team success. “It’s about lack of focus and selfishness,” he stated.
He added that everyone wants to score and be a hero. However, football is a team sport where assists matter too. In Europe, players support each other to succeed as a unit.
While Kotoko fans celebrated their league position, Zito's comments highlighted internal issues. These issues may need addressing for Kotoko to maintain their lead in the league.
