Carlo Ancelotti, the head coach of Real Madrid, will leave the club. He will become Brazil's national team coach at the end of the season. The 65-year-old Italian will officially start on May 26. This is after La Liga concludes.
Ancelotti leaves Real Madrid as one of its most successful managers. He won 15 trophies during two spells with the club. Last season, he led Real to a Champions League and La Liga double. However, his departure follows a recent El Clasico defeat.
This loss left Real seven points behind Barcelona with three games left. Unless Barcelona collapses, Real will finish without a trophy this season. This would be their first trophyless season in four years.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) called Ancelotti a "legend of the game." They noted the importance of having a foreign coach for Brazil's team. The CBF stated this moment combines two icons: Brazil’s five World Cup wins and Ancelotti’s record in Europe.
They welcomed Ancelotti and expressed excitement for a new era under his leadership. The CBF also thanked Real president Florentino Perez for allowing Ancelotti's release from his contract. His current deal was set to expire in June 2026.
