Accra Sports Stadium not available for footballing activities until completion of structural audit - NSA

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has decided to keep the Accra Sports Stadium closed for domestic football matches.

On April 2, 2025, the NSA released a statement. They noted that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) requested to use the stadium. However, they cannot grant this request due to a "structural audit" in progress.

The NSA received the GFA's written request on March 28, 2025. They stated that preparations and protocols needed for a successful game were not feasible. Therefore, it was impossible to hold any match at the stadium.

The NSA has consulted major stakeholders about hosting football matches at the venue. They confirmed that the match between Accra Hearts of Oak S.C and Nations F.C will not take place there.

Additionally, all other fixtures will only be approved after completing the ongoing structural audit. The NSA will update everyone on when the stadium can be used again for football activities.

This announcement continues a closure that began in September 2024. The stadium briefly reopened in October for Ghana's AFCON 2025 Qualifier against Niger. After that qualifying campaign ended, it closed again for maintenance work on the pitch.

In March 2025, it hosted its first competitive match since closing. Ghana won against Chad with a score of 5-0 on March 21 during a World Cup Qualifier.

The last renovation of the stadium occurred in 2018 before hosting that year's Women's AFCON tournament.
