Alvarez hits double as Atletico thrash Sparta Prague

Julian Alvarez's brace led Atletico Madrid to a dominant 6-0 Champions League victory over Sparta Prague.

Diego Simeone's side, aiming for back-to-back European wins, opened the scoring with Alvarez’s stunning free-kick, followed by Marcos Llorente’s goal before halftime.

Despite enjoying possession, Sparta struggled to threaten Atletico. Alvarez struck again in the second half, converting Giuliano Simeone's pass with a clinical finish. Antoine Griezmann marked his 100th Champions League appearance with a goal, while Angel Correa added two late strikes to complete the rout.

Atletico now sit on nine points from five matches, level with eighth-placed Aston Villa but having played an extra game. The win strengthens their chances of progressing to the knockout stages, with the top eight teams securing automatic qualification.
