Amorim wants to keep Fernandes at Man Utd

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim wants to keep captain Bruno Fernandes. There is interest from Saudi Arabia, particularly from Al-Hilal.

Fernandes' contract runs until 2027. The Saudi club may offer a large salary for the 30-year-old. They want him to move before next month's Club World Cup.

Amorim needs to sell players to fund a summer rebuild. This need will grow if United fails to win the Europa League and qualify for next season's Champions League.

"Our idea hasn't changed," he said. "We want to keep our best players. Bruno is clearly one of the top players in the world. We want him here."

Fernandes has scored 19 goals and provided 18 assists this season.

"It’s easy to see his importance," Amorim added. "Not just because of his numbers, but also how he plays." He emphasized Fernandes' leadership as captain.

United is expected to reach the Europa League final against either Tottenham or Bodo/Glimt after their 3-0 semi-final first-leg win over Athletic Bilbao.

Historically, teams winning an away leg by three goals have advanced every time.

It would be surprising for United to lose their advantage on Thursday against Athletic Bilbao. The visitors are missing key attacking players due to injuries.

However, last season, United led Coventry by three goals in an FA Cup semi-final but needed VAR help to avoid a penalty shootout.

Three weeks ago, they led Lyon 2-0 but fell behind 4-2 in extra time despite Lyon being down a player.

"If you look at our season, anything is possible," said Amorim. "We cannot predict what will happen."

He noted that some teams control their narrative better than others. Sometimes during games, they lose focus and struggle.

"I feel we need to score to advance," he said. "We will have to endure some challenges."

Amorim expressed frustration after a 3-1 home defeat by Brighton in January, calling it "maybe the worst" team in the club's history.

He acknowledges he might have been too harsh but believes results support his view.

"You must consider my quote in context; things can change," he explained. "In terms of results, we are among the worst teams."

By season's end, they could be historically poor yet still win a European title.

"This season has been disappointing for everyone," he admitted. "I still feel it has been one of the worst seasons in recent memory."
