Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan addressed the perceived rivalry with Andre Ayew, dismissing any animosity between them.
Gyan acknowledged that Ayew "has that genuine love for me" but suggested external influences were at play, saying, "he has been brainwashed because it benefits people." Both players have had a significant history with the Black Stars, contributing to major tournaments like the 2010 World Cup and multiple Africa Cup of Nations.
While Gyan captained the team until 2019, Ayew later took over, fueling speculation of a rift. Gyan, however, emphasized, "Me, I am not a rival to anyone," indicating that the rivalry was artificially created. Gyan retired in 2023, while Ayew remains an active player, though not currently with the Black Stars.
