Former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua was honored by Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on December 30, 2024.
At a special ceremony, Joshua was given the Yoruba name "Omobowale," meaning "the child who has come home," recognizing his pride in his Nigerian roots.
The governor also renamed the state’s boxing hall after him, acknowledging Joshua’s contributions to sports and his representation of Ogun State and Nigeria on the global stage.
Governor Abiodun praised Joshua’s excellence and resilience, calling him an ambassador for Ogun State. In appreciation, Joshua was gifted a country home in Sagamu. The recognition highlights his status as a national inspiration and a symbol of achievement.
