Trayvon Bromell from the USA has set a new record in the men's 100 meters. He ran an impressive time of 9.84 seconds. This performance beat Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, who previously held the fastest time at 9.86 seconds.
Bromell achieved this victory at the Rome leg of the Diamond League circuit. Saminu's previous mark was a national record, surpassing Benjamin Azamati’s time of 9.90 seconds.
In addition to Saminu, American sprinter Kenny Bednarek also had a time of 9.86 seconds. He tied with Saminu after winning at the Grand Slam Track in Philadelphia.
Bromell outpaced a strong field to secure his win. His achievement makes him the world’s fastest man this year, ahead of the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo.
Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme finished second with a time of 9.99 seconds. Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala took third place, clocking in at 10.01 seconds.
Fred Kerley, the 2022 World Champion, finished fifth with a time of 10.06 seconds.
