Trayvon Bromell from the USA has set a new record in the men's 100 meters. He ran an impressive time of 9.84 seconds in Rome. This performance surpassed Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu's previous mark of 9.86 seconds.
Saminu had recently set a national record, breaking Benjamin Azamati's time of 9.90 seconds. Bromell's victory also outpaced American sprinter Kenny Bednarek, who tied Saminu’s time at a Grand Slam event in Philadelphia.
Bromell dominated the race against strong competitors. He is now recognized as the world's fastest man this year, ahead of the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo this September.
Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme finished second with a time of 9.99 seconds. Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala took third place, clocking in at 10.01 seconds.
Fred Kerley, the 2022 World Champion, finished fifth with a time of 10.06 seconds.
