Fiifi Tackie, spokesperson for the Ayew family, criticized Black Stars coach Otto Addo. This came after Addo commented on Andre Ayew’s exclusion from Ghana's squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Despite Ayew's strong performances with Le Havre in Ligue 1, he was left out of the team for Matchday 5 and 6. When asked about this decision, Addo said, “If we need Andre Ayew, we will call him. At the moment, I see others ahead of him.”
Tackie responded sharply on social media. He called Addo’s remarks disrespectful. He noted that it is surprising coming from a coach who failed to qualify Ghana for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“Coach Otto Addo’s comments on Andre Ayew are shocking and disappointing,” Tackie wrote. He pointed out that Addo has said active club participation is key for national selection.
He questioned how Ayew—Ghana’s most-capped player and a three-time World Cup veteran—could be overlooked while excelling in Europe.
Tackie emphasized Ayew’s contributions to the team. “Ayew’s legacy and commitment to the Black Stars are unquestionable,” he stated. He highlighted Ayew's experience and leadership in major tournaments.
“It’s baffling that a coach who couldn’t qualify Ghana for AFCON would dismiss such a player,” Tackie added. He condemned Addo's remarks as “unprofessional” and disrespectful to Ayew's sacrifices.
Ayew last played for Ghana in March during a friendly against Uganda. Since his debut in 2007, he has earned 120 caps and scored 24 goals for the Black Stars.
